new logo reflecting the past
One of my clients came to me with a need for a logo for a business that is well established, but could use a fresh approach to their branding. Since the 1960’s the Vons name has been used for several of their family businesses. Thus, a logo that reflected a bit of the past, but still offered a new clean look was requested. I created a selection of four different logos, and this is the one the client fell in love with.
logo: neighborhood association
Project: Create a logo for the Northeast Rose Hill Neighborhood Association.
Criteria: Color green; imagery that resembles neighborhood; flat color.
Status: This is round one, scheduled to be previewed by the neighborhood board.
logo: when to get it
If you hear the names Nike, Pepsi and Facebook, I bet you instantly see those company logos in your mind’s eye. That is exactly what Nike, Pepsi and Facebook want. You have just proven that they have reached a height of brand recognition. This achievement is the result of an investment of thousands of dollars, if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. Reaching the household name status is priceless.
Let’s bring this large brand idea down to size. Small business size to be exact. Whether your business is selling a product or providing a service, you need brand recognition. Maybe your business started around your kitchen table, on the sofa in your living room or in your garage shop. You told your friends about your product, they were excited about your new venture and supported your endeavors. A few highs and lows later, and your business begins to pay off. This is the point when you realize your business could be viable and make a decent profit. Time to tell the world about it.
Would you say that now it is time to have a logo designed? I would suggest that it is past time. If a logo has not been established, it is time to get to it. Just think of the clients you have already served and the brand exposure you could have had, so don’t delay. Give your clients a striking image and a catchy name to remember. With each client that does business with you, you have the potential of reaching their friends and family. They will talk about the service you provide, share your name and give away a business card. Before long, you will have built recognition.
Of course, many business owners wish to reach the level of household name status. For most of us, that may not happen. However, we can have a very successful business that reaches our community, city and beyond. Include in your beginning business plans the creation of a logo that offers longevity and easy recognition. The investment will more than pay for itself.
